I'm interested to see if there is any way to find the volume of searches per unit time on a certain keyword in Google.

Probably the best way to get any kind of ballpark estimate on the value of a particular keyword is to run an AdWords campaign.

I have an adwords campaign. It isn't a very good ball park estimate because my ad won't be shown all the time for the phrases I wish to find out about because

a) I'm not the top bidder, it's too expensive.

b) My spending cap prevents me from being shown all the time even if I were to be top bidder (thank god, otherwise I'd be spendings thousands a day)

If I knew what percentage of the time my ad was up for a certain keyword or if I was able to keep all ads up at the same percentage of the time then I could formulate some kind of comparison. There's a ball park, but it's a really iffy ball park.

Does the Google Sandbox offer keyword suggestions in any kind of order... say by volume of searches?

You can do a traffic estimation with a pretend bid without committing yourself.

Correct - But the estimation is based on clicks, not impressions. I'm unsure what data they use to create this estimate. If they are using search volume times, say, 5%, then the comparison is legitimate. However, if these estimates are based on clicks received by other people advertising on the same keyword, then the estimate is not a legitimate ranking in terms of search volume. It seems that it would be more relevant for Adwords to use the latter since it's a measure of the performance for those keywords based on previous ad trends, not based on search volume.

Use a very high bid and a very high daily limit and figure out how many clicks that is estimated to produce.

Use your Adsense CTR to then estimate the number of impressions.

I think the best way to guesstimate is using Overture's inventory tool and extrapolate from there.

Take into consideration that the google audience is more technical in nature, while Overture's partners are more consumer oriented. I guess you would also have to find out which one has the highest reach. I am sure this most have been discussed here sometime ago.

Yeph, I thought so:
