301 for www.domain to domain?

Hello,

My apologies for this post. I've read many threads about the 301 redirect but I'm uncertain of how to implement it in my situation.

I have incoming links to www.domain.com and to domain.com. However, I only want to promote domain.com from now on. How can I be sure that Google will not see both www.domain.com and domain.com. I'm afraid of getting penalized for dupe content.
