I have been actively trying to obtain links in my area. I am related to the travel vacation industry and have been getting listed on sites that offer information about these type things so that they place a link to my site. In some cases they offer a reciprical link. How do you know when a site is not good to be linked from? I read about link farms. What is that exactly. I check the sites in the Google toolbar and most show a PR3 to (in some cases) a PR7. Yet when I check my links I show none for Google, a few for some of the others and a lot for Lycos. Is this what I should be doing? I created a links page and am trying to get sites relative to my page. If I type in the name of my business I get several pages that apparently link to me. Some of these are not related to my field (example:someone who has part of my business name as their name has linked to me). I didn't ask for them to do this. Is this going to hurt my PR? Also if they show up as linking in a search for my name, why not for a links check? I did the backlink check and am not finding any showing. Before Florida I was showing extremely well with not hardly any links. Now I don't show up in search results at all. Can anyone take a look and just give me your opinion as to what is wrong. If it is something I can fix, I would gladly do it. I rely on this, as I'm sure most do, for my business and this is the time of year that I really need to be found.
