Page content and keyword density

How much text is enough and do derivitives count?

I'm in the process of overhauling my website and I'm trying to stay within the "unwritten" Florida guidelines... I've heard that a page should have 300-600 words of text with no more than 10% keyword density. Is 300 a little much? and from the new "unwritten" rules on how to count the derivitives of a word, will the derivitive of a search word count towards the calculation of the search word density?

I would not stress out too much over the number of words on a page. Certainly you want to have some good content on a page, but I've optimized a lot of sites and I've never seen a big weighting in the algo towards this factor.

The guy from Google did say that they were striving to put more emphasis on semantics going forward. I am seeing this...I know longer have to put as much emphasis on widgets and widget.

My advice, write a lot of content about one subject and you will probably cover all of your bases without even trying. Some pages will naturally be longer than others, keyword densities will vary, and you'll probably use all types of synonyms and related phrases. Ultimately, this will make you less susceptible to changes in the algo's.

Thanks for your input on my questions and concerns. It sounds like you've familiarized yourself with the aftermaths of Florida.
I'm about to post another question that regards inbound links. I'm wondering if the inbound links should be directed to specific pages of my site that are optimizing certain search terms that match the text of the inbound links.
