Backlink Update History

The backlink update for the last couple of months have been on:

22+ days
February 11
16 days
January 26
15 days
January 11
18 days
December 24
18 days
December 6
16 days
November 20

The dates could differ by one day if you are in a different time zone. However please correct me if I'm wrong about any of the dates.

I have added the number of days between the updates and the interesting thing is that it's now 22 days since the last update. When do you think the next update will be?

Unlikely. Google is a commercial organisation. For Google to stay ahead in the SE game it needs to keep its databases as up-to-date as possible. It will also need to schedule its resources. I wouldn't mind betting that all Googles' activities are scheduled well in advance. Of course schedules change when circumstances demand, but every organisation tries to run to a schedule.

I had a quick look this morning for the first time in a few weeks. Feels like time is right for a new update in backlinks probably to be followed by another "dance" where there will be more talk about 64...which will never materialise

How can you check your own backlinks? I have added a lot of links from sites in my field but I don't know if they show up as yet.

Better search for it in alltheweb. Almost everybody is convinced that there are better results.
Even so, the links that G show for a page are not all those that G counts for PR:
I've made a mini script (VBA) that given a list of pages with their Toolbar PR values calculate the PR of my site, suposing that all these pages are linking to me: the results using the backward links list from G are always below my true PR value, so I deduce that the list is not complete :P

I thought that Google has stopped "updating" publically available backlinks - I thought they have just made changes to "the mix of sites in the sample of backlinks" that are publically available. Rathere then an "update", there is a "change".

Thanks for info everyone, now a quick question...

I have 4 or 5 PR4 sites linking directly to my home page url. One or two of them have a fair few outbound links and I am just "another" link on that page, but the rest are proper pages almost dedicated to linking to me and mentioning my site. These links have been in place for well over 3 months, yet Google has NEVER showed these up in its backlinks. Sorry only one of them is, but its a page on the open directory which happens to be PR4, and that's been there for ages.

I thought it was suspected that Google showed all PR4+ incoming links in the backlinks results. So either something has changed, or this was never the case, or they have to be PR4 but maybe some other factors in order to show up?

And a bummer, one inbound link was from a PR5 for ages, I waited for 2 months, and it never showed up in my backlinks results, then the page dropped to PR4. Damn.

I was a PR4 for around 3 months and around the same time as the PR5 page went back to PR4, I became a PR3 again, but I think mainly due to a pagerank scale change, because all my deep content pages(and I have lots) are always PR3.

And just one more thing..
I know that PR is far from everything, I'm just interested in the whole backlinks showing up thing.
In alltheweb I have almost a 1000 backlinks.
My site does extremely well in Google and most other major engines for a whole range of niche keyword phrases and some semi-broad/niche ones.

I am very often on the first page and very often number one in the world for many niche phrases and have been this way for a long time even at PR3, I'm happy with my current search results, but these are just some mysteries I have..

My site was always a content-rich free user-aimed informative site. Its grown to be very popular and lots of regular members, and only now am I starting to sell some products that the members want. I am interested to see if I hold the same SERP positions once I add some pages on $'s and selling stuff. Maybe Google will detect me as going very slightly commercial and drop me back.

One point about the backlinks:
I have among 200 PR4 backlinks that do not show in G backlinks search. I have been ensuring that all the pages that link to me has less than 100 links and are smaller than 50 kbytes. I know G is counting them, because as I get them, my PR increases accordingly. Not even alltheweb shows all my backlinks. I've made a search that gives me the true number of backlinks that G recognizes: "www.mydomain.com/subdir/" for a site that is in a subdirectory of another page. In the G SERP's, I can see my 273 backlinks: those who include my url in their code are of course linking to me ;)

I am wondering if they are not putting less importance on pr/backlink and that they would work on new ways to determine if your site should rank good or not. Cause competition is there now, so how GG is going to react? This is my big worry. I was just getting good at ranking in Google and I hope they wont change everything.

Good question. It seems to me that the big "G" is sitting, watching, and waiting. Yea, the everflux may be a bit more than usual, but I find many of GG'uys statements of a "more fresh" directory are not quite on target - if anything the directory is less fresh than it has been since "Y" jumped ship.

The webmaster's are forced to wait, but I wonder if the surfer's have not noticed the lack of freshness and are checking out "Y" and others. I've seen a traffic increase from alternate engines, and I suspect others are noticing the same thing too.

Thanks Stargeek for the encouragement. It just thats a weird timing for me. After 4 years of figuring out starting from no expertise whatsoever (i am no webdesigner) so i had to work hard to figuring everything out. Now that i finnaly figure out how to play the game. The "Big Split" GG and Yahoo. Anyway its going to be the same for everybody. Anyway thanks for the encouragement.

If I remember right, in the GOOD OLD DAYS :), Google updated content and backlinks @ the same time. Remember when we use to look for backlink shifts from Yahoo.com via www2, www3 and www? I wonder if the delay in this backlink update might signal a return to the regular once monthly update of both data and backlinks? Just suggesting that while we all still wait and wait and wait....

Or, as history would have it (the past several months), when backlinks and PR updated, there wasn't a shift in rankings to go with them (like the "older" days).
I wonder if google changes things every days, on all datacenters, then this thread would go on forever.
