However, I am posting this in Google News, because I am interested in knowing the affect of this on Google results.
Ok, to explain my question:
Can Googlebot read through the text in Layers (which is required when we make Tables using CSS)
I bet many of you must have tried it, but, would like have feedback like:
1) Has it reduced your on page download time?
2) Does have any difference on GoogleBot behavior?
3) Can outbound links in Layers be read/followed by Googlebot? which means > can PR be transferred through text in layers?
4) Does reduction in HTML code really make a difference on Keyword frequency? (tables using CSS)
Thankx in advance.

Thank you for your prompt response.
You have answered all my questions. Only problem now, would be that the designers @ our office would have to shift to using Tables using CSS aggressively.
synergy, I have another question for ya.
Why did this post not have any replies other than yours. Does it mean that:
a) It is so common that everyone uses Tables with CSS & Layers. (therefore this is an amateur question?)
b) It does not have much importance from SEO point of view? ( So, not a Hot topic to debate about?)
c) Lastly from point of view of speed of developing pages, this would slow down our normal process? or is it just the question of getting used to (practice)?
Thankx in advance.
Any other opinions from anyone else?

People in Google news may not have experience with CSS or they may not come here looking to delve into CSS issues.
WW members may see the CSS heading and think you either don't read or don't follow the rules, therefore they may ignore the post.
Just one hunch amongst many.
The general buzz is that CSS is very Google friendly in that it allows for a higher content/mark-up ratio and allows you to move your content high up on the page.
Lastly, responsive posts are not always "Johnnie on the spot". Sometimes a post can linger for more than a day before someone will take pity on the orphaned post ;-)
