Google: are keywords in body broadmatched?

Question on if Google 'broadmatches' keywords found in the html body.

Hi,

Let's say my page has the plurlized version of the most popular search phrase. For example, if I'm selling online widgets and most people search on Google for 'online widget' then my relevant page content has a number of instances of 'online widgets' (note the plural). Does Google interpret the phrase 'online widget' and 'online widgets' as being equivalent or not? In other words, in order to have my site place higher on the indexing for 'online widget' should I change the pluralized phrase to its corresponding singular?

I am not sure. My intuition tells me that Google searches don't perform a 'broad-match' so that it should be that Google indexing doesn't perform broad-matches either.

Thanks.

Search this site for forums on LSI and word stemming..
Everything you're looking for should be in one or both..

Yes, Google does read variations of the same keywords, eg:

keyword
keywords
keywording

It's called "keyword stemming" - there are loads of threads on this here so if you search you'll find some good reading.

It's good to have KW variations because it'll help you bring in traffic across a range of different search terms.

Its easy, Make the changes and you will see better results for that keyword, but you can still get results with widgets, but better with widget.
