I submited my new site to dmoz about 1 month ago. Its still not listed yet but I am in google.com with PR0 at the moment. My question is how can I be in google.com if I have no external links on the new site and if I am not listed in dmoz? I also did not submit to google.
Is it possible dmoz chose not to include my site but passed it on to google? Or am I inluded in dmoz but it takes a bit longer to actually appear in the dmoz directory?

I can happen. Don't worry - be pleased that Google has found your site :)

Do you have the Google Tolbar? There is a theory/debate that the google toolbar will get orphaned pages/sites into the index.

I am aware of dynamic pages that don't exist in the normal scheme of things, but are still indexed by Google.

I was experimenting a couple of months ago with some parameter changes by typing them in. Those pages are now indexed. I can only assume that the toolbar picked these up.

However, I should also say that my site appeared in AltaVista with no backlinks because it was still in development. I think some search engines must monitor domain registrations.

There is a site that is spidered by Google, and lists all registered domains. That could be one way for search engines to find your otherwise unlisted site. I don't think I am allowed to post this url here, but you can find it if you search for 'Global Internet Link Archive' and '.gr'.

Google may also be spidering whois information.

Yes I have the google toolbar. Are you saying that the toolbar cookie notes the url sites I visit and sends them to googlebot to spider?

If anyone anywhere has link to your site from their site Google can find your site. If the link is from a below PR4 page it pobably won't show up in your backlinks.

Actually there is little point in registering for Google as Google will probably find you site on it's own.

How can Google tell you the PR of a page unless the toolbar sends that data to Google? ;) The possibility of Google using whois data is also a strong possibility. We know Google has all that, because GoogleGuy posted they use it to know if a domain had expired, and thus they won't count the old backlinks if someone buys it up.

Also, are you 100% certain that nobody may have linked to this site?

I have a site that we are using for testing prior to a go-live. Strangely, I noticed it was already in the google index. Oh well :).

I've noticed a couple of domains I registered recently (and put up holding pages for) have been indexed. I've done nothing with either domain other than that. I put this down to either Google spidering whois as mentioned above, or a site somewhere which is linking to new domain registrations but doesn't show in a link: search.

Probably part of Google trying to increase the number of sites indexed, although I'm not sure that newly registered sites offer the best of content.
