I've been reading many many posts about the Google changes affecting everyone. But I'm more curious to why I have been affected.

After watching my log files I noticed most spiders were hitting a non-existant page from a javascript menu. At that time I was hardly shown in any SERPS. I then created that page that was being spidered and WHAM! Within one week I had a PR of 4 on Google and showed #1 on all my keywords. Users had no way from my site to get to this page, so I made it a mock of my homepage and added extra keywords.

After some time, I starting dropping off. Now, it's not easy to find me unless I type in my exact page title.

I hear so many times that putting a multitude of kewords one after the other is not smart and that you could "get in trouble with the SE". Yet, all my competitors that were above me had done that.

So finally, here are my questions:
1) I have created a test page. It has text/images/etc that describe my service. At the bottom of the page, I also include several keywords.
Could this hurt me when crawled, and if so, could it hurt the whole site?
2) If I have already been punished, can I remove these bad things and have a chance at a normal life?
