I have been running my web design website for 3 years. I have been trying to increase its hits for the past year and learning all I can about SEO. Knowing that inbound or backward links are very important for increasing traffic and also, as I understand, the Page rank (PR) algorithm. According to the Google toolbar, I have a 4 for my home page.

When I learned of link:www.example.com I was annoyed to find that only 1 out of 40 of the websites that point to my site showed up.

Is there any way for me to assist google in seeing my inbound links?

Thanks - tbottas

Welcome to WW.
Pages with low PR don't show.
Google is showing only backward links with PR4 and above.
The other 39 websites should have PR3 or less.

When you use the search tool only links with pr 4 or above will show up. maybe you can can click on the 'repeat the search with the omitted results included.' link in the last page to view some of the lower PR pages. However, it show some of them ONLY.

But rest assured that all bank links contribute to your PR although you can't see them.

Lastly, PR4 is consider low for your homepage. That's why I believe most of your backlinks are below PR4.

I would like to increase my page rank.

I have avoided paying for listings? Should I take the $ plunge?

What is your favorite tip?

The first thing you should do is ditch the Zeus generated links directory.

Urban legend. Google only shows a sampling of links. Furthermore, two pages can have inbound links from the same PR4 or better page and Google may show it as a backlink for one, but not for the other.

Just wondering.

Thanks!

tbottas,

So you got 2.5% links being shown as backlink and that is not bad! If you want more backlinks, you need to get more inbound links - no other choice. But don't be too obsessive about the PR and backlinks, otherwise you can be led into illusion.

For ex. - I got a site with over 14,000 links shown by alltheweb, but only 120 being shown as backlinks by Google. So to speak that is only 0.8%, but then who care about the rest 99.2% not being shown as backlinks when the site ranks #1 on 3M serp for its money phrase.
