How Google treat Image servers?

would it affect our main site PR?

All;

Here is my situation and I hope someone on this board could give me some help.

I am running quite a big site with over 150Kof highly content condense material. Google loves me <grin> and give me high PR and first listing results on almost all my keywords. The site is 9 years old and we never did any special SE optimization, we believed that the content we offer will do the job… and it proved to be the right decision.

Now, here is my question. I am considering moving most of the heavy graphics to a different server, to better manage bandwidth issues. The image server will forbid hot linking to any domain but our main site.

Would this action have any effect on our good relations with Google?

Insight, thoughts and comments are welcome

Thanks
Hanuman

I'd suggest naming the server wisely (ie images.yourdomain.com) and it shouldn't be a problem for Google, because it's quite normal. I also do it on 2 projects, but couldn't see any problems so far.

ever notice where the graphics on WebmasterWorld are served from?

doesn't seem to cause any problems with ranking!

Thanks ThomasB;

It is not a sub domain. It is a different box. and for now no domain name assinned...only ip address. does this matter?

hanuman, it shouldn't matter imho, but it shouldn't be a problem for your hosting company to let a subdomain point to the IP of the image-server. Takes maybe 2 minutes.
