Is this normal when you change host?

Dropped from page 1 to page 16!

Hi,

Just looking for a bit of reassurance here really.

This morning my site, which has been stable for a a few weeks now, dropped from Page 1 to Page 16 for my main search terms (I should really be used to it now, it has happened about 4 times since Florida update).

Last week I changed to a new host. The move went smoothly with no downtime on the site. Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this dramatic drop when you've changed hosts?

One other thing, I've noticed that my backlinks over night have reduced by about 40% - I have a feeling that the hosting is just a red herring and this is the real reason for the drop.

Any thoughts.

I never faced such a situation as yours, after changing host but I did notice that my PR dropped 1 for a few domains while some was maintained.

So what do we think, down to changing host or a backlinks update?

I believe something is going on with a backlinks and PR update at the moment, although it hasn't reared it's head fully many people have seen some kind of movement in the past 24hrs.

Is anyone else seeing this change in backlinks?
Within my category I'm the only one that seems to have been hit. Everyone else is solid.

I've never noticed even a blip in the serps when changing hosts.

I've never noticed even a blip in the serps when changing hosts.

Neither have I. When switching hosts, the only thing that would really change is your DNS record and IP. I don't think PR is influenced by your DNS record or IP (I don't see why it would be, either), so switching hosts shouldn't affect your PR.

My guess is that it's something other than switching hosts that affected your PR, and it coincidentally affected your PR when you were in the process of switching hosts.
