Same URL more than once in same keyword SERPS?

I have started to notice on some heavily searched keywords in the g serps that the same url is being shown in page after page.

Now i am not talking same url, different page i am talking same url i.e www.yourname.com appearing on 5 consecutive pages for the same search term.

Surely this is not possible or is it?

I have seen this on a travel search term on more than one URL searching g.com in the UK.

Anyone else seen this?

In my industry, the "top" sites are not even supplying the product, all are reviews or news, some 12-months old..so I lose, the provider loses....and google will eventually
Three of the sites have indented results, all three are the same domain (mirrors), so they have first page to themselves.
They are not spammers, (unless you count adsense) they have no affiliation to the product whatsoever. I went over the sites with a fine tooth-comb, links out, links in etc.
In other words there are no "buy buttons"

But the sites dominating are PR7/8...so pr is dead ..go figure

Sorry all,

when I wrote:

- hey, there's no point in finishing the sentence :)

It wasn't down to secrecy, just that this stuff has been posted so many times before that it gets tiring, even when responding to GG. I just got tired of hearing myself speak...

I was just trying to say: the site ranked top in Google for 2 years, but suddenly it's off the radar, along with a hundred others. So I guess Google had it wrong for two years?

That's all. Have a great weekend.

That's right, Chelsea. If they really had it wrong for the last 2 years, then they certainly wouldn't be where they are today in the search engine rankings. So, they had it right, and now, by supposedly trying to produce even more relevant results, the have pretty much accomplished the opposite.

I talked to the person about identical urls showing up and they found the problem. It will take a binary push, but should be fixed pretty soon (I would guess early to middle of next week).

GG, without giving away anything or telling us too much, is it possible to at least let us know if you expect the different SERPs on 216.239.37.98 to ever move to other datacenters or is the update over?

I know you said before that it would soon, but so many people are seeing so many different things that I was hoping maybe you could shine a little flashlight in this tunnel of darkness. :)

Looks like google was crazy and quality is very bad now. many of my friends switch to other search engine already. I think it is good time for another talents to build better search engine to replace google now. Google is good before "Florida update" now it become worse and worse.

With the keywords I'm watching this is a pretty much common problem...same site/url appearing 'several' times spread throughout the serp.

It seems to be that 'clustering' is either broken or was removed.

If that's how Google would like to show their serp that's fine with me...I'll take whatever traffic it throw to my site.

However, I'll concentrate my site seo/promotion effort with other alternative search engine (just in case Google belly-up :) ). IMO, it's worthless to optimize sites for Google right now. Until, there's stability, I won't touch my site trying to catch-up with Google irratic behaviour.

What really confuses me though...is the fact that...Google have personnel assigned for QC (Quality Control) purposes.

And, just like any other businesses, QC would be on top of any defect or deviation of quality from the standard measurement.

Not to bash GG but it just makes you wonder if there is really a QC at Google because this multiple/duplicate listing problem would have been caught early on by the QC the moment it shows-up. Not GG trying to figure out what's the problem.

Manufacturing companies would not sent out finished products until it passes a rigid inspection from the QC team which has the final say whether to ship it or correct the problem.

Normally, QC is a manual process, eyeballing the product looking for defects. In my years with manufacturing(surface mounts), I have yet to see a machine that produces 'error free' product regardless of the latest and greatest high precision technology.

At the end, it's always a pair of eyes that determine the quality of work done.

It makes you wonder what the Google QC saw in the serp that it thinks it's fine to release it to the public or is there really a QC at Google?

Cheers

In manufacturing today "QC" or quality control is not used any longer. Quality Personnel are referred to as "QA" or quality assurance. We are not controlling any longer, we are assuring:)

But I think you are right on the money. Something definitly leaked past the G quality assurance these last few months, and it makes you wonder if they have any such department set up.

It's one thing to let a leak such as the recent serps slip out once, but to let it slip out twice, usually someone gets fired.

In manufacturing, and in google. One mistake can be forgotten and overlooked, but once the second occurance happens is when customers look for other suppliers.

Don't take that bad...I didn't mean it that way:) I was totally agreeing with their lack of quality, whether that be "control or "assurance";)

Google Guy, you mean to tell me that Google is just now finding out about this problem? I have seen it for weeks upon weeks with other sites, some fill the top 10 positions! I have the #1, #2, and #3 position for one of the only search terms I have left and I have no idea why.
#1 genericbluewigets.com
#2 gernericbluewidgets.com/info
#3 craftybluewidgets

The search was for craftybluewidgets

Do your engineers have their monitors on? seriously.

Many of the people who have posted above are from UK.

Are these search results visible in UK only? I am in India & I am NOT observing these results for the usual very popular keywords.

Could anyone sticky me on the search terms for which you are observing these results?

No - they are also visible in OZ.

Should we really have to point these things out to google?

The term i was looking at when i started this post is one of the highest searched travel keywords...

The company that is running these sites that have duplicate URLS in the post is already spamming the travel market with ident sites, bought back links with sites that are identical and heavily keyword stuffed..

Does google need to give them more of an unfair edge.. We have just had a meeting this morning and decided to ignore google until they can sort out these problems and i am sure the consumer is turning off too.

It is not a good situation as whatever filter g is using is ignoring some of the most obvious spammers around the world and hurting those with a proper business outlook for the consumer.
