Content is King?

Hi,

I have a site with more than 1 000 pages. Each page describes diferent product, but they are very similar. Should i add more original content to this site? for example some articles, news, etc?

I was searching for free mac widgets and found some very well done pages.

They sell thousands of this category of widgets. Each widget has its own dedicated page with a description, history, references, a handful of links to the seller, etc.

When I found it I thought it was very nicely done.

Sounds good. And don't forget to target different keyword / phrase variants, different spellings and even spelling errors as well as sub topics with each new page. THAT is the power of content.

Well - it sure won't harm you to create more news and varied content. So if you have the time, it would be hard to say no to that question.

does anyone know, roughly, the limit of content in regard to PR.
2 of my sites are content based and I cannot really get any useful backlinks without linking to competitors and I want to keep the sites independent.

I understand this will harm PR but could I get beyond, say PR5, without substantial backlinks?

The easy part of the answer is "yes"!

The trick is to find ways of generating unique and useful content efficiently. If you can do that, and line up your plan for page generation and content with not only what you have to offer, but also with Yidaki's comments, you're good to go.

A lot of good content + wise internal linking = spread pr. Do the math.

You will need some. But hey, the more good content you have, the more deep links you'll get - naturally.

All my pages are generated by special software. This software generates standard *.html files. I ca add some variables to this pages like date, time, comments etc. I can also make some "fake" pages generayed every day and linked from the main page for example pages with random 2-3 products listed.

I have. WebmasterWorld leaves no doubt about who's the king of seo. WebmasterWorld is page one on 25,000 plus terms I have spidered. This place must do 100,000 referrals a day. bt, u r the master!

Content is king, use it to get visitors and spread them out through your site. More visitors should equal more sales. As long as they are targeted.

Personally i don't think Googles cares too much at all about dupe content, unless pages are indentical. Stick with adding similar ontopic content and leave the news etc to the BBC

Jaffstar - consider outsourcing the content creation. If you know what a page is worth in financial terms (roughly) you can decide how much it's worth paying someone to write it for you.

There are plenty of sites which will allow you to post a request for writers and have them bid for the work. Even with a smallish budget you can get a few hundred pages written.

Be careful to specify exactly what you want though. And ask for a few samples of the potential writer's work before you commission them. Your role then becomes more of a commissioning editor rather than writer. As long as you research your keywords carefully and commission tightly to a pre-determined budget, you'll be laughing.
