Googlebot Trapped?

I have a website which has been in the google index for around 3 months and has been recieving around 5k hits from the good old googlebot. But this month It has soared to around 45k so far.

When it was at around 20k I thought it might have been because I had recently added adsense and that has its own spider, and also thought that it might have been because I had been ****ing my site and getting a lot more inbound links from other sites.

What would constitute a spider trap and do you think I should email google, or am I overreacting?! Any guides on spider traps would be helpful :)
