Interlinking webistes with diff topic?

I have four websites, which are not related to each other. what would be the effect if i link them together for pagerank? pros and cons?

I've seen sites get away with what I would consider to be excessive crosslinking. But it seems too risky. What's acceptable today may not be alright tomorrow. Lately, I've posted lots of requests to link to my sites and exchange links. That seems to be working.

What is relevant? I have travel sites for 4 countries and they are part of my company so I link them together. Wether that helps the user or not I don not know. It is relevant to me because it is my company buy maybe not for the surfer and that is what counts
