PR question / multiple domains

4 Years ago, I gave myself a bad domain name. 2 Years ago I updated it, but left the old one in place because I wanted old customers to get in touch with me.

I am pretty new to SEO. I just checked my PR using the toolbar, and both domains have a pagerank of 4.

Should I 302 all of domain 1 to domain 2? Will that potentially give me a pagerank of 8? Or is my PR really just supposed to be 4?

Yes, use a permanent redirect. This will not give you PR 8 from another PR 4 page though.

NevetS, don't use a 302, that's a temporary redirect and causes problems. Use a 301 permanent redirect.

Perhaps the domains are already merged. If

• the back links shown for link:www.domain1.com and link:www.domain1.com are the same (a sum of both back links)
  
• info:www.domain1.com as well as info:www.domain2.com are showing the same link (i.e. both links shown by Google for the info command are going to www.domain1.com or www.domain2.com)
  

PR as well as back links are already summed up. I wouldn't change to a 301 redirect in this case.

However, if different informations are shown you can use a 301 redirect. The effect in the toolbar will be small because it's a logarithmic scale. Most likely it will be a PR4 (perhaps a PR5).

I would hope that the link:www.domain1.com and link:www.domain1.com would show the same backlinks............
