"the" returns 5.4 billion results..

I know this has been brought up before but I can't remember the answer nor find the thread..

A search for "the" in Google returns 5.4 billion results, yet Google only claims to index 3,307,998,701 web pages. What might this be?

Its actually 4 billion but I've heard rumors that this is a bug in Google which is gotta be fixed.
