Confused about backlinks

I can't figure this out so I was hoping someone could help me.. I've seen numerous sites in the top 10 and when I check their backlinks, all of them are from internal links..Example:
www.domain.com has backlinks of www.domain.com/page1.php, www.domain.com/page2.php, www.domain.com/page3.php

I've looked at the sources of these pages and they link back to the www.domain.com as either href=http://www.domain.com or href=/

I link back to my home page the same way, but I only get 1 backlink for it! How are these sites getting additional backlinks from internal links?

Only pages, internal or otherwise, with PR 4 or higher will show in Google's backward links list. If all of their pages are 4+, they'll all show up in the list. If your pages aren't 4+, they won't show up.

Also, your links still count even if they are not showing in the baclink check on google. Try a backlink check on alltheweb for a more comprehensive list of sites linking to you.

Yes......that is the same point whatsoever.....google may be giving some pr benefit to you, but when you do the backlink query, it will show u PR3/4. I add the PR3 thing because I see PR3 links up there as well.
