Disappearing from google

My site was number 2 for years on google and yahoo for the search term Keyword1 keyword2 until the recent shake up. Now it is not found anywhere near the top. We have not made any alterations that would affect the ranking.

This happened about a month ago, and then it went back to normal.

Anyone know if this is a temporary Google Dance, or is it messed up for good?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Larry

P.S. Very frustrating because we are the oldest company on the net in our field, and now the searches are turning up a confusing array of companies who are unknown.

[edit reason] please don't use site specifics, thanks! [/edit]

You are not alone. Many webmasters are in the same situation. The most recent update put a huge penalty on e-commerce sites, realty, affiliates, and other hot industries. Unfortunately, the only immediate solution is adwords.

Interestingly enough, we run an e-commerce site that was struggling with another issue before the update. Since the update tho, we are seeing some improved results from our adwords efforts which we have had in place for about 6 months. Nothing great, but better than the previous 5 months.
