My site has a PR of 5
but my site with the /default.asp added on at the end has a PR of 4
Does this mean anything, am I doing anything wrong?

If everything looks good in the serps it's probably not a problem but have you checked to make sure that Google isn't finding duplicate pages on www.site.org and www.site.org/default.asp?

Duplicate content? Or inbound links that vary between pointing to www.mydomain.com and www.mydomain.com/index.asp? I thought the duplicate content problem had been fixed, or at minimum would result in a penalty (which with a 5 and a 4 doesn't seem likely).

When people link to your site, how do they do it? What url do they use? I know my site has a PR for domain.com, but nothing for domain.com/index.php (which is how I want it). I'm very careful about inbound links and how they're formatted. Well, the ones I know about anyway. LOL

Thanks for your reply - no I haven't how would I do that?

I've checked for links to the default.asp in All the Web but there aren't any and Google only shows 10 and they are internal links. I guess I haven't really got a problem but I've made sure all internal links go to the homepage without the /default.asp

Internal links will cause this problem as your PR will not flow back to your domain.com page correctly and will instead place that PR into the domain.com/index.asp page. That's probably where your problem is. If you're a PR 5 and the PR makes one internal iteration it seems plausible that it would end up at PR 4 when considering outbound links and the damping factor. Correct those and you may actually see a slight increase in your domain.com PR. That depends on whether you believe internal links can increase PR though.

Thanks, I've fixed it now so I'll just wait and see.

Glad you got that DRGather... I was mostly trying to bump it up so it didn't disappear in the florida threads. Yeah, the PR4 PR5 didn't seem like dupe content to me either really... it just seemed a safe thing to suggest until someone like you jumped in with the right info.

No problem Stefan! Anything I can do to help. I've been mooching knowledge long enough. About time I spread some around! LOL. Just glad I actually HAD an answer!

Happy SEO'ing. (I've got SOO many SEO'd Christmas carols tumbling around in my head. It's sick really...)

Just noticed that I have the top two places on a search in Google the first is my homepage the second is my homepage with the default.asp extention - does anyone see any problems with this?

Yeah, I have noticed that duplicate pages are not being effectively filtered out at the moment.

I have seen a few cases of domain.com/ and domain.com/index.htm appearing in the same Serps and also cases of domain.com/ and domain.com.au/ where previously these would have been filtered out and left only a single occurance of each.
