I m switching over my site to another web server resulting in the change of the IP address.
will this affect my google pr or ranking of the site?
how can i minimise the risk of loosing Google PR or ranking.

Hi,

Plenty of threads on best practice when moving servers. Just make sure you understand how DNS works for your domain; take action in sufficient time and you'll be fine.

Check this search [google.com] for other WebmasterWorld posts on this topic.

Google finds IP's very quick. I have switched them and had Googlebot there the next day. It is always best to make sure that you have the old IP continue to show the site for a little not for Googlebot but because there are some DNS's that don't update that often. I still get the occasional hit on my old IP. PR does not follow IP's it follows page numbers. You can buy a site from somebody that has PR move it to a new IP and you will get the PR. You can have a round robin DNS that visitors get a different IP every time they come and your PR will do fine.
