I have SEVERAL websites of different content. All have PR 4 to 6. All still do well in desired keywords. Just recently all were dropped out of sight but only in searches that used the name of the state. For example all still do well when searching "big widget makers" or "good widget fixers" but NONE do good if you use "state widget makers". All these websites are for clients in the same industry. Some of them link to each other, all link to my portfolio website but....... no white bar or gray bar and still high PR. Just dropped from searches using the name of a particular state. Agggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Is G now able to decide a website has abused a particular word and just drop you from appearing in returns for that word only?

Thanks,SORRY I did not use a good title for my question. What I am wanting to learn is this:
Is G able to punish websites for abuse of 1 word only and have them keep their PR and high rankings under all other search words. Everything on all my websites is very near where they were before (rankings, PR, and all) EXCEPT when I use a search using the name of the state where these businesses are located. I mean it is like somehow G said "you are all doing OK, but you all used the word "Wyoming" (not the state but for example) too much so we are dropping you out of top several hundered when people use that word in the search phrase.

I am sure that I think that "No one knows except google, wait it out." from time to time nearly every day. I guess though, that I had hoped for a reply or 2 from people who had seen the same thing, or perhaps that I could get a little exchange of thoughts about if this is actually happening and what could be causing it.

Do not wait it out. Sick of that tired old idea. If your SEO tactics are flawed and you have been hit, then look at them.

If you can see you have been penalised on keyword phrases, it is probably becuase you've stuffed them everywhere. <title> <h1>(including multiple <h1) tags alt tags allinanchor and kw density.

Yes google will proably roll the severity back, but I doubt it will roll everything back totally. Do nothing, and you risk the roll back not helping you

ONLY sites I have overstuffed got penalised. Those that were not, did not.

Latest update is stupid, and google know results now are not very good, but I can't see them doing a total revert, and I'm betting they will do it again in 3-6 months(This is the thrd time this has happened this year).

Who wants to have their site go down like this for 2-3 months of the year each time google does this?

Check your SEO tactics. Theya re probably flawed. Fix them.

There are a ton of articles about the new update. There is a huge wasteland where every body fell off on competitive words and have stayed on non competitive words. There are several theories out there and 1000's of posts of people with the same problem. You won't have to dig hard. Just read.

There are plenty of sites with good PR out there that don't drop. The only problem is that your previous tactics for that keyword phrase have already been out-dated on or after 15 Nov 03 and they are not up to Google requirements and standard anymore.

Any way, you will still need good PR and incoming links to keep your sites live but tactics might have to be changed.

Also, not all the dropped items were dropped sites--many were simply dropped index pages, which isn't the same thing at all.

PR is more important now than it was before florida. I had a PR7 a month before florida and I did not rank that much better than I did when I had a PR4. Now outside of the general search terms I rank number one for just about any text I put on my page.

IP address? Is it possible that G applied same punishment to all websites being hosted on a particular IP? I am talking about approx. 50 websites and they differ widely from one to another. They could not possibly ALL be in violation (all have different design / layout / use of keywords / word count / you name it etc.

Linking Or is it likely that since my website design link appears at the bottom of each website that G applied same punishment to all websites designed by ME.com?

I guess most of the people don't know exactly what method G used to drop your site or your index page. Simply your site or index page does not pass through the filter on that keyword phrase...that is for sure. How that filter work seems to be a mystery.

Index pages/High PR sites are dropping because they have no outbound links. Hoarding bad, sharing good.

PR is still an important part of the algo, but High PR without outbound takes backseat to to high PR with outbound (anchor text important).

Don't expect to see changes in rankings immediately, I believe that large parts of this update are "frozen" until after the holiday ad buying spree.

Of course, this update signals one thing:

Turn out the lights, the party is now over. You can chase the algo tweaks or you can "see" the new google. If you truly do "see", you will understand the commercial webmastering/google mix is now toxic.

Sorry Jon316, that is not true. Abundant of sites that get dropped do share outbound links as well as do get inbound ones.

All Have their opinions, for last few days I am fed up of reading as well, also too busy for an experiment.

Lets see it one by one,

1) If you have more than 1 h1 on the same page, then panelty (true/false)
2) keyword density above 10%, then penalty (true/false)
3) no or less outbound, penalty (true/false)
4) irrelevent links inbound and outbound, the penalty (true/false)

Any other suggestion can be discussed. Lets share what we think. This might help to come to a conclusion ( another momentary conclusion).
