Having gone from # 1 for my single word and double word search terms, to only showing up on 3 word searches (1st page).
I now also notice that searching for my domain "widget.com" google says " Sorry, no information is available for the URL"
How many others that have been demoted and have the same issue and what is the relavance given that I still am in googles directory and DMOZ?
Of course both results vanished. My site works fine with or without the www prefix but I make sure that all links to my site use the full [domain.com...] form.
You have two choices, ask google to reinclude your site or start fresh with a new domain.
Sorry for being blunt.
Kaled.
Of course both results vanished.
It would be simple if the two paths www.mydomain and mydomain was indeed pointing to the same files, then I would agree with you... However I made sure that the www.mydomain was moved to another location before asking for removal to avoid the obvious deletion of both, and the mydomain was left intact.
your right if I search for www.mydomain.com it does show up, but I used to be able to search "mydomain.com" without the www.
And I also notice that searching the full [mydomain.com...] has increased the number of pages linked to google by about 50% compared to a few weeks ago?
just searching for possible clues to googles changes..
On the website.com searches all the survivors I have tried will show a listing.....it seems like many of the missing sites no matter how many pages indexed get this message? The addition of www. or the patented new advanced search feature of -abcde will make missingsite.com searches show something other than :
Sorry, no information is available for the URL Missingsite.com
If the URL is valid, try visiting that web page by clicking on the following link: Missingsite.com
Find web pages that contain the term "Missingsite.com"
I really have no clue - I personally think Google is broken. GG explain how fully indexed sites get that message on a simple search for missingsite.com?

Um, what does one have to do with the other?
The "sorry no information" would seem to be an example of how Google is now in a cycle of pretty poorly handling the www versus domain.com after several months of doing pretty good.
LateNight:
Unfortunately, your hypothesis does not fit what I see for the "major survivor"* as compared to other sites that disappeared from the SERPs I check.
*This is a site that has ranked at position #1 for a very long time thanks to keywords and links hidden in 1x1 pixel images and heavy-duty link exchanges. Good job, Google! Throw away the babies! Keep the bathwater!
GoogleBot follows 301's
I don't know if that's why your website is having problems, but why not do the 301 just to be safe? PR transfers appropriately per my experience.
