domain expired & site lost rank - how long till site reclaims rank?

Here is one for you experts. My domain name expired and I lost my index page #1 ranking for pretty competitive keyword. My domain was down for 3 days.

This happened 2 weeks ago and my site has been visited several times by googlebot since then.

It took me 6 months to get to #1, now I can't find the page in the rankings(however it is in google's index).

How long till it pops back to the top? Any ideas?

It could be back in the index in a matter of a few days depending on the site's PageRank and other factors. But again, who knows? The way the results are showing now you may never get back into the top of the results.

What's the PR show on your pages? Is it white-bar, gray, or do you see some green?

It is also possible that you are a victim of update Florida. There has been a couple of thousand posts over the last week about sites completly disappearing for there main keywords.

Check through site search for Florida update. It is a coincidence that the update happened at the same time your domain was expired. There are many other that are experiencing the same thing you are and their domains did not expire.

I assume you renewed just few days after expiration, in which case you should get your rankings back once you put your content and wait about a month. However, if your domain was expired and released after the 30-60 day redemption period and then you re-registered it, then chances are you will loose your PR permantly, unless you email Google and tell them what happened.

My page rank is 5 and is green. The domain name was not released, I was able to acquire it back with no problem from the hosting company.

So, best guess is one month unless I got caught up in the Florida update. And if that happened, then who knows?

If your still showing good green in the toolbar, it doesn't sound like a lost PageRank problem, more likely may be related to the recent update.
