Backlinks seem to be updated on -va

just saw new PR showing up for sites and backlinks on -va

although I don't see that big a update for the backlinks, atleast for mine and other sites.

yahoo:

normal 759,000 backlinks
-va.google.com 762,000 backlinks

I noticed the same thing, too. All the other datacenters have not seemed to update with new backlinks yet.

I hope the results are -va are the ones that are permanent. -va is the only datacenter I am still doing well on. The rest of the datacenters are showing complete crap results.

Yes definately updated backlinks showing on -va. Sites missing thru this update still not reactivated. Generally this datacentre does seem to be showing more pertinent results. But hey we're still dancing and who knows what will happen next.

Me either. We are gone from the top 200 now and have been replaced with directory sites. Thankfully my site is listed on those directories though. Hopefully end users will be curious enough and patient enough to look in them.

OK - for whatever it is worth...

I have been awol from my keyword off and on now. Right now I am OFF.

I just realised that doing a search for my keyword is returning directory listings in some odd order.

We sell widgets. We are listed in G Dir under "Shopping>...>...>etc".

If I do a search for widgets, the results are first a reference to a "new" category "Home> Consumer Information>...>...>etc".

Then the very first positions are from the G Directory ">...>...>Manufacturing".

So, right now a search in regular Google for widgets is EXACTLY the same as when I do a "search ONLY" for Widgets in the G Directory ">...>...>Manufacturing".

No wonder we are nowhere to be found!

I'm seeing what I saw at the beginning of this funhouse (for a brief shining moment we had our old 1st page positions again, then back into the deep end):

For my 'professional widgets' (a very narrow search term) I see nothing but .gov, .edu, and .org sites that have some kind of mention of 'professional' and 'widgets' in the title and body.

Someone searching for a professional widget will learn that the state of Nevada prefers if you submit your Nevada professional widget using blue ink on an alternate Tuesday, and that you will have to contact the Jefferson County School System for more info on their professional widget guidelines.

Neither I nor any of my competing purveyors of fine widgets for the discriminating professional are anywhere to be found until almost result #200, then we sort of have some unrelated inner page showing up instead of the index or the widget product description page.

The update is not done. The theory that Google is trying to get rid of e-commerce sites is ludicrous - the majority of people use search engines so they can shop for exactly what they want, go read the last few years worth of Forrester or IDC or Media Metrix studies. Shopping is what keeps the net hopping.

You're right; G does not attempt to get rid of commercial sites, but to get rid of spammy sites...unfortunately, abundant small niche and focused sites appear to be caught in the net too.

In my field, I begin to see another change in serp at this hour and it is awesome that subpages/subdirectories of large websites are even gaining more grounds in dominating the top ranks for highly competitive keywords.

I see the backlinks changed to a little less then last month, but I have also noticed that some of the backlinks are fro some kind of directory/SE type, ofcause I like back links from those, but I dont think that will be a good idea in the long therm for the Google index.

Then we will see alot Search engine results and results from the big names like Amazon all over the Gogle index.

Im not making a complaint here, I still get about 800.000 unique visits a month.

just go to www-va.google.com
bring up your site in the results and click on your site.
I think this works.

try this:

1. clear your cache
2. Visit your site
3. view temp internet files
4. Look for string beginning something like:
[216.239.33.104...]
5. Right click this, choose 'open in new window'
6. In the browser window that pops up, alter the first part of the URL to:
[www-va.google.com...] etc.....

i am 100% convinced that google is somehow not working like they would like to work. on nearly everything i searched i got aweful results. i was searching for google for something not business related and didnt find what i was searching for
instead i went to altavista and found what i was searching for

google is ****ed up... no longer relevant on anything i searched

so i guess they are working on the problem..
