I noticed today that on one of our sites that Google has indexed the HTTPS version of our pages instead of the normal HTTP. Since when can Google spider such pages and have we configured something wrong all the sudden as I have never seen this before. And these aren't shopping cart pages. For one keyphrase Google has turned out FAQ and site map page into https so that the URL is something like: [examplesite.com...] By the way for that keyword the htpps pages rank 3 and 4 and the http page, the home page ranks 7. Any thoughts?

Strange but not so uncommon: [google.com...]

Perhaps someone has posted a link on their site to your site using https instead of http - did you try looking at backlinks?

Google started indexing https sites around Feb 2002.

Check your DMOZ and Yahoo! listings - if they have your site listed as https - Google will index you as https

Https rankings are also weird - I've seen greybar https pages outrank high PR pages?

If you don't want https pages indexed - robots.txt or 'noindex, nofollow'
