Back Links vs. Contains the Term

What is the difference?

Hi:
This may be a stupid question, but what is the difference between Back Links and Contains the term. It seems to me if a site has your URL listed and a title it is a back link. My back links only amount to 29, but my "contains the term is 455. What's up with this?
