i have a website, currently suffering from zero pr.

most inbound links are pointing to the root
i.e. [example.com...]

and my real index file is actually resided at [example.com...]

should i do a 301/302 or a url redirect in this case?

any helps would be highly appreciated. thanks!

Definitely! You won't rank well without doing it. OR, you may move your main page from [example.com...] to [example.com...] which is the preferable method.
