On first glimpse Googles Adsense seems very inflexable ie you have to have the ads on the right hand of the page which doesn't suit our page design - am I right in this or can they be positioned anywhere.
auinfo: You can place the ads anywhere you want on your page. Also, to faciliate a placement that will fit your site, Google provides four differenct formats you can use:
1. 468 x 60 Banner
2. 120 x 600 Skyscraper
3. 728 x 90 Leaderboard
4. 300 x 250 Inline rectangle
Further, you can use a different format on different pages. For example, we use the 120 x 600 Skyscraper on all pages but our forum, where the 728 x 90 format works better.
I doubt that Google could care less on what you advertize and/or promote. This is something you should look at (and worry about) from the customers point-of-view.
Banner ads do very little in terms of advertizing. Google AdSense is good except for one thing, clicking a link closes your site and takes the sufer away. Most likley they won't be back. Unless you have something like 20 million hits per day, Google won't change this. I use them on my links pages, but make sure each Link page opens in a new window.
My opinion, sign up as an affiliate with products that will suit your visitors. But read up up all the tricks vendors use to get out of paying affiliates. Then promote these instead. Works for me :o)
