Google Not Reading Links Back To Site

This has gone on for a year

I have several hundred links to my site but for the last year when I tried link:www.site.com it showed only about a dozen. Last week, for the first time, it showed 350 plus. Now it is back to about 12. When I try this using alltheweb.com I get 399 links and have generally gotten this result any time I tried it with alltheweb. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Google's backlink function hasn't been worth anything for a very long time. They seemed to have come to the conclusion that allowing webmasters to accurately investigate linking structures within their database isn't a good idea.

Google's reading them alright. Just not disclosing them :-)

And alltheweb too is either broke or not always disclosing all linkbacks.

I've noted such discrepancies over the past couple of years. The gap between links disclosed on Google and alltheweb has widened considerably. At the outset, I immediately took it as an indication of links Google deems relevant.

High-ranking and pertinent sites remain listed, but the list has grown markedly shorter. Recently, I noted Google no longer listing dmoz links, but it seems to have taken those back in. Insignificant sites are still listed, but I assume they're sites yet to be filtered.

Although this is merely the way I've understood this anomaly (without verification), not that it's under discussion it strikes me how often I (or we) assume things without questioning them.

Hi webmasterworld!

I've also noticed that the number of linkpages with my backlinks in the last year decreased (when I typed: link:www.mydomian.com). At first from 800 to 500 then to 300 now only 200. But on the other hand the disappeared linkpages has at least PR4. So I cannot understand Google why not count them.

On other forums I read that here is the end of link exchange.
"Reciprocal linking is dead!"

Is it right?
