HI all

I was wondering if anyone will be able to shed any light on a small problem i seem to have?

I have recently had a CRON job done on one of my sites. All that happens is that every day the site is deleted and replaced by one of the 2 saved sites in the source.

i.e

site 1
site 2

public site

on monday the public site is deleted and replaced by site one.

on tuesday the public site is deleted and replaced by site two

on wednesday the public site is deleted and replaced with site one.

etc

etc

(all the sites are the same)

Why am i doing it? My theory was that google would think that iim updating the site on a v regular basis and hence spend more time spidering....

I have seen in quite a few serps that the more commonly updated sites seem to rank better!

The problem i am having is that it hasnt seemed to have made any difference (no laughing!) if anything im not getting any spiders now!

can anyone shed any light on the issue...would it be better to just go back to the "proper way of doing things"

Thanks for your time

Jamie

First off, I think it's dumb to try to con search engines. Focus instead on making a decent site and things will fall into place naturally.

Secondly, it's not a good idea to delete and copy your website. If this action is something you're dead set on, I'd recommend just setting up two httpd.conf's (one pointing to each version of the website) and restarting apache using alternating versions of the conf.

Okay, but you aren't updating your site. All you're doing is changing the file date, and the content is remaining exactly the same. Just follow Brett's advice on how to build a site. It's actually quite effective.

Maybe we backed off because we thought your webserver was schizoid. ;)

I'd agree not to worry about this. Instead, I'd just work on Brett's guidelines for building a site..

But GoogleGuy, you have an unfair advantage. When it come to item B in Brett's guidlines, you are the only one that can get his suggested domain name. ;)
