Google indented listing all tangled up

Cache, snippet and hint in a mess

I've just been searching for two keywords to see whether my last edit has dragged me onto the first ten results.

Curious...

I have a page which matches the two words pretty well, but the higher PR of my homepage (where most external links go) means that the homepage gets chosen first even though one of the two words is only in the ALT tag of a thumbnail image on the front page.
(The second page is indented as I'd expect, so I can't see how close it was to toppling the homepage)

For the expediency of an example, let's suppose my two words are
widget craftmeister - yup, that's bizarre enough...

On the homepage (craftmeister is only in an ALT tag) Google's snippet emboldens the word craftmeister and quotes the ALT text.

In the cache however, it says
"the word craftmeister only appears in links pointing to this page"

So which, dear friends, do you reckon was the location of the word that got me listed on the SERPS? Which one should I optimise? The ALT or the link onto my site....

Regards

Not too clear on the question, but it's been suggested G can view Alt text similarly to link text, if so, might that explain the "..only appears in links pointing to this page" or are there other links using the word in link text?

>>"..only appears in links pointing to this page"

That will show if it's image alt text, even if it's only part of the phrase - even one word in the alt attribute of the linking image.
