Thats all.
Directories are a good start to get initial PageRank because you can get (non-reciprocal) inbound links.
The Link _won't_ give you more boost than an ordinary link with the same properties (PR, amount of links etc).
But in future it could be useful for you to link to an adequate categorie (authority).
Does having a Google Directory listing affect the spidering of the website?
If i have a directory listing does my website get spidered the same as if i had non category/directory listing (an ordinary web listing in Google).
Example : I have some links on my homepage which i would like Google to find and spider. However, my homepage is listed as a directory listing in Google web results - it has a category. What I need to know is will this make any difference to how often Google spiders the homepage if the page is a directory listing and not a normal web listing.
Is there any difference between how google would spider the following example listings:
Title - title title
one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven
www.site1.com - Cached - Similar pages
and
Title - title title
one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven
Category: a > b > c > d > e
www.site1.com - Cached - Similar pages
I am sorry if this is confusing!
Cheers
Your homepage will get spidered more often if you have a higher pagerank and content that updates. Having a directory listing has a side-effect of boosting your pagerank by a large amount if your site is small and a small amount if your site is large. However, simply that your site is in the directory will not affect your spidering, unless you've never had any other incoming links.
To get a listing, you need to visit dmoz.org and follow the guidelines. Before submitting your site, do some research of how to give yourself the best chance of your submission being accepted by reading the Directories forum here and visiting the ODP Public Forum, which you can search in Google to find.
