My site dropped a month ago from # 2 to #29 for its main keyword when I made a few slight changes to the homepage. I changed it back 8 days ago, but Google still shows the cached page the way it was more than 8 days ago. It is a PR7 page. Is this normal? How long does it normally take for the cached page to be updated?

The page still fluctuates daily from #14 to #31.

8 days is the outside time limit you would like but if your home page doesn't usually change much maybe google have made a mental note not bother updating your cache too often.
I have a pr5 site that google jumps all over and updates the cache immediately because I change the page every 2 days.

cabbie - same here but google bot 2.1 only scratches the site (daily though), never goes deep and only indexed 10% of pages, very old too, from July.

Nav is rich, inbound links some PR5 and little lower, much vopy, no fancy design. Don't know what's wrong.

Any hint?

Thanks, Jens

>>Any hint?

i am definetly no expert and there are a thousand guys here that could help you better and there are so many variables in being crawled I don't know where to start.
Is your domain clean?i.e.no past nor present penaltys.Has it ever been owned before? Is your pr at least 4 or 5 and even then it will only get freshbotted if it has a direct link from a page that is at least pr5 and being freshbotted itself. Some pr 5's arenot freshbotted because they are made up of many smaller pr links. It depends on how deep your pages are from your home page and what pr are they? You say they are very old -from July.I dont think that that is old especially if we are talking about pr3 pages.I don't know what google bot 2.1 is but If google is coming daily then you must have alink from a pr5 site which itself is being fresbotted.Google is only following the link but probably because you are only one of 50 links from that page its not particularly interested in going deeper into your site.Gets some more high pr links or be patient and wait until google finds time to check your site out. There could also be many other reasons as well.
Now aren't you sorry I started.I know I am.I have probably confounded you and anybody else unfortunate enough to read this dribble.
Cheers Alan

Alan, I truly admire your commitment and appreciate your time spent on the matter.

The site has only been live since July, G came by to crawl the first couple of pages that were there at the time and comes by every day now but the site cache in G only shows those first couple of pages.

I do have three PR5 sites pointing to this site, some 50 other pages with lower PR too.

Strange: Changed the title of the HP and two days later it shows in G as the title in a generic search for the site's top keyword. BUT: the cache still has the very old content...

If you tell me to have more patience I am fine, just wanted to make sure nothing strange is happening and I could contribute to a better outcome more actively.

So I will build more copy and links (both ways plus internal) and wait out some more (july through October is a bit long though...). Today GBot came by and hit me twice just to read 5 pages (again), the site has more than 50 pages now with tons of copy and links...
