Hi all,

I was just wondering if any of you knew how often Google update its Directory using the DMOZ data?

I have a couple of sites that made it to DMOZ a couple of month ago but they are still not listed in the G Directory.

How does it work? Do they usually update the whole directory or do they do it by chunks?

Thank you for your feedback

A change must be imminent: I got an entry in DMOZ a month ago. When I find my page in the Google SERPs it shows "Description" and "Category" from DMOZ. But when I click on "Category", my site's not there.

It should be very soon, as DMOZ updated itself about 3-4 weeks ago - for the first time in a few months. It was a big update across DMOZ, a heck of a lot of house cleaning was done.

The situation described has been going on for at least a few months, and has been described here often.

While I do see the "Description" and "Category" in the SERPs the directory.google link does not show in my backlinks.

I've got the opposite problem, I'm in DMOZ, and the Google Directory. Backlinks show my Google Directory listing, but not my ODP one and my site has slipped. I have no Desc. or category. I've been in DMOZ for over a year, but sometimes Google misses it for several months and I lose my Desc. Cat etc. This seems to occur when Google 'splits' my site into a www. and non-www version. I have no idea why this keeps happening.

What I've recently tried is linking from my home page to my ODP directory listing in the hope of forcing the GoogleBot to spot it! (I also link to the relevant Google directory too for good measure).

So far no luck. I'd love to get my Desc. and Cat. back!

Bloomin 'eck! He's right you know. Our site was listed in two categories in DMOZ(regional/activity). One of those categories (the "activity") has now disappeared altogether and our site is now listed in a more general "activity" category, as it seems are all the other sites I could think of that were in the now deleted category. .. Don't think it'll make much difference to me.

Google directory however still shows us in the category that has been deleted from DMOZ, so they're not that up to date.

Thanks for the heads up..I would not have noticed we had been moved otherwise.

Do we know why the SERPS/Toolbar show the catagory listings but the directory doesn't? This has been going on for a few months now...

Well its been around 6 months (or close to) since the Google directory was last updated, and Yes DMOZ did go through a big upgrade process and a lot of house cleaning has been done, and all seems back to normal now, so there's no reason for Google not to use this data to update the G Directory.

If Google place any value on their directory at all, then now is the time to update it, as there are sites that were added to DMOZ in May like mine, and although the backlink is showing for the ODP, and we now have the Cat and description showing in the SERPs, but we are still not listed in the G directory.

So the update for this is way over due and like a few have said, i also expect to see this update to happen very soon.
