I suspect we have had a google position taken

I know this is pre moderated and to be honest I would rather I could discuss it offline as I am quite worried about it. I am no expert in search engines and sincerely hope I am worrying about nothing.

I did a search in yahoo on sites linking to our site and found two sites linking back to us which I had not seen before. When I clicked these links I was redirected to the same site but could see no mention of a link to us. The description in the Yahoo link seemed to be an all the web type link

I saw the page that one of the links was pointing to and in Google tried a search phrase(relating to that page) I know we have had a decent result in. The results of the search showed the site supposedly linking to us but we are not there. I did another search (again a good result previously for us) and again saw this site but not ours.

I don't want to wrongly accuse any site but how can I check this out as I know we won't be the only ones effected by this? There is no contact info on the sites so I can't email them. I don't want all our Google palces taken one by one.

I can provide exact deatils if you are interested but I would rather this wasn't posted. I know you aren't set up to cater to individual requests but I don't know who to contact.

Have you checked the cache to see what it there. You may get lucky and see the real content.

No way of answering this because you can't post specifics. However, this sort of hijacking should be impossible just by linking to a site.

I looked at the cache but had the message that about having to turn off java and then was redirected to the other site.

I feel certain something strange is going on as the link is to a page we previously had the good result with but this site is now there and we are not.

I can provide specifics offline

I have seen this happening more and more in the serps. I believe it is due to the fact that the site is serving up one page to the bots and another to the public.
