Huge sites with PR 0

ESPN pages penalized?

Why are some of the largest sites, like ESPN and MSN, given PR 0 on certain pages? I wouldn't think it would be a linking issue, but maybe some kind of cloaking they do for different browsers? For example, the main page for ESPN is PR 9, which seems logical, but if you go down a few layers of links you hit PR 0.

I have been linking to a number of pages on their site that I notice now have the white bar on the toolbar, and I just want to make sure that Google will not penalize me for linking to a site like that.

Your TPR takes time to update. Even the page of this thread is PR0 as I write this. Would you link to it? :)

I understand that...but I'm talking about pages that have been around for years. For example, the pages for some sports teams on ESPN are white bars, and they have been up with the same URL for at least a year.

If they are around at exactly that URL (are you sure?) this is another kettle of fish.

Reasons could be:
- Recent Change and Rechange of URL
- The pages are not linked with pure HTML (JS ...)
- Exclusion with robots.txt
- noindex,nofollow etc.
- They are duplicated content

Are they appearing in the SERPs?
