Need to quiz everyone on trickle-down effect of PR.
From the index page of a PR7 or PR6 site with 400+ good links, what is the optimum number of internal links to ensure the next level down only loses PR1?
Checking a load of sites, many seem to lose 2PR for next level down - especially where they have 60 odd links to internal pages. Have seen almost none where with 40 or 50 links there is a PR1 loss.
I thought internal pages would only lose PR1 (unless you are silly and put 400 links to internal pages).
Plus how does this affect external links i.e. if I want to link from PR7 to PR4 will I automatically get a PR6 provided there only 2 or 3 external links?
Let's say it's 6.63 (a chip off of Planck's constant... we don't know its a stable base, but why not?).
Small differences in the exponent mean big differences in the number of outbound links before you see a Toolbar measurable difference in the transferred PageRank.

In practice, if your first level pages link to the home page and to each other then you'll rarely lose more than 1 PR for those pages.
The problem really only occurs when there's no interlinking of pages so the only PR is that coming from the a single link from the index page.

How about in plain math?
6.63^5.8 = 58180
6.63^5.1 = 15478
So the PageRank 5 site that really has PageRank 5.8 can grant almost FOUR TIMES as many outbound pages PageRank 4 as the PageRank 5 site that really has PageRank 5.1.
