Redirect to New Site

Will old site retain rank?

A competitor who holds position one for "my keywords" has renamed his business and launched a new site with a new title and URL.

The old site is now a redirect(302) but still holds position one.

Can I expect the old site to remain in first place, or does it loose its grip on that position after a while?
