My googlebot hits are way up today. Wonder if it's related?

There is something strange that happened overnight, I can tell you that. Something happened, good or bad not sure.

Fresh dates usually only stay 2-3 days. Or am I missing something?

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO.

Now I see it too, the SERPs have changed, and I'm 4th for my single keyword (without cheating!).
Still the 1st and 3rd are cheaters and not penalized, but I think I can live with that.

You and I both. I don't understand the significance either. Seems like this happens every couple of days.

I am seeing a few 28 Sep 2003 - but my main sites that have been fBotted daily every day in September aren't.

Just re-checked .uk, .ie, .fr, .de, no dates showing at all, though it seems some dates are still showing in the States.......?

My fresh date is back also. However, I dropped from #1 to #2 for the first time in about a year :(

I am seeing tags for Sept 29...

I have had some new sites move into top ten since last night.

I am seeing a smaller number of included pages across a good number of domains. Looks like an old index maybe?

I have Sept 29 fresh tags. It was spidered on Sept 29 at 5:22 AM CST.

I too must be missing something? What is the significance? I still see about the same amount of fresh tags.

Someone reported this scenario a couple of days ago, and the datacentres I've tried tonight all seem devoid of fresh dates.

Is there the start of a pattern here?
A few days sniffing around and then a period of "consolidation" when google slopes into a corner, shuts the door and gives itself a real talking to?

I'm not sure I understand what I'm seeing, but there seems to be some regularity about it.

All comments welcome!

I'm not seeing any now, but I've seen that happen before but they always come back.

Google fresh update with tags about 5 days p.w..I notice that often over the weekend they have a break and sometimes in the middle of the week.
Sometimes I think its due to a algo tweak.

You Just cannot keep up with the new changes since May.

Just when you think there's pattern building or someone manages to see one building the Big G seems to hit the brakes, or does a handbrake turn, or sudden left or right and we are left to think and build up our theories yet again on what had happened or is going to happen.

But like cabbie said " think its due to a algo tweak " and then exactly as Marcia says, " they always come back " which they do.

But this has happen twice in 2 weeks now with no fresh tags showing, and its strange as for a few weeks now that google have been playing, testing, tweaking, it had been very consistent IMO, and there was new fresh tags showing almost daily, I mean one day they were even showing fresh tags the same day the bot had crawled my web, that was a first I had seen this, and shows you just how fast they can grab the fresh Data and push it out into the SERPs.

Its been a couple of days now without them.I predict a substantial tweak but I hope its not the -ex data .

Is Google changing it's pattern of quicker fresh cache, it seems to be stalled? It's over 5 days and I have seen that in months.

I last had fresh tags for Oct 3, but the changes that had been picked up the week before, when the tags were coming more frequently, are solid in the index now. Maybe Google takes a break doing the fresh tags when it's busy stuffing the last batch of fresh results into the permanent index...

I too have seen a slowdown in freshness of my listing in Google. I put up a completely new website over a week ago and Google has not cached it yet. My listing used to be updated every 2 or 3 days.

It may be related to the algo change last week. My site hasn't been updated since October 2nd and most of the refreshed cache dates are missing in the SERPs.

Ever since the algo change last week, I have noticed that plural and singular keyword searches yield identical or near identical results. Hopefully, once things settle down, Googlebot will be back every day or two.

Fresh tags seem to appear every 24-72 hours. They are currently back with a date of Oct 6, 2003. They will probably disappear again in the next 24-48 hours only to reappear again 24-72 hours later. I've not really seen a change in the cycle for quite some time. Maybe I'm not watching close enough. ;)

I haven't seen fresh bot on any of my sites since September 30th. Although, freshy did come by today for my most popular site. It took the index and the robots.txt like three of four separate times and didn't go any deeper than that.

Perhaps we will see something soon.
