How does my pagerank suddenly go to 3 from zero

Will this external link make a difference and is my pagerank due to it?

Guys,
I just set up a site in august...

Till yesterday it had a pagerank of zero.

Yesterday suddenly its showing a pagerank of 3, that is, all my pages show a pagerank of 3 and the products page shows a pagerank of 4

if see the back links of the home page i only get 2 back links...
The first is my own products page and the second is an external link..

Now one strange thing is that if i navigate to my site using the format [mysite.com...] i get a pagerank of 0, but if i add the "www" part then it, ie [mysite.com...] shows a pagerank of 3... is this normal?

Another fact is i just got a message from a site yesterday saying that they added a reciprocal link to me and asked for the same. they say that unless i give them a reciprocal link they will remove their link.

This page is a links page with about a dozen other links listed and has a pagerank of 3.

It does not show up in my backlinks

Now my question is is my suddenly elevated pagerank due to this one link i have? and strangely it doesnt even show up in the backlinks.

Also wont this pagerank 3 get divided between all the links?

I dont want to risk losing my newly accquired page rank by refusing to reciprocate with this site if its due to this..

Also can i transfer my pagreank 4 from the products page to the home page? any techniques?

I just noticed that my site has been accepted in dmoz.. could that be a reason for the sudden pagerank?

Altavista shows this dmoz link, but google doesnt

Also another product review site that i submitted to lists my product alaong with 26 other award winning softwares on a awards page which has a pagerank of 5. Could this have been passed on? but again doesnt show up in backlinks.

This site links to me in this fashion
[mysite.com...]

where hop.asp is a redirect page i provided them to redirect to the product page based on the productcode(pid)

I know im rambling :) sorry but i guess you guys got my question.

Thanks
Satya

PR is calculated for individual pages, not sites.
mysite.com and www.mysite.com are two different pages to Google (at least to the Toolbar).

Backlinks are not all shown at the moment, but most are factored into the calculations.

Yes, PR calculations distribute the PR of the linking page to the linked pages, it is divided by their count. But the PR shown on the Toolbar ist (probably) the region of the "natural" PR of a page scaled logarithmically, so the number divided not 3.

Also can i transfer my pagreank 4 from the products page to the home page? any techniques?

Maybe I'm getting your question wrong, but you can transfer PR by linking to another page.

Hope that helps

Guys,
I just set up a site in august...

Till yesterday it had a pagerank of zero.

It's not unusual that it takes a month or so to get PR. PR updates about every 3 Weeks.

Yesterday suddenly its showing a pagerank of 3, that is, all my pages show a pagerank of 3 and the products page shows a pagerank of 4

Now one strange thing is that if i navigate to my site using the format [mysite.com...] i get a pagerank of 0, but if i add the "www" part then it, ie [mysite.com...] shows a pagerank of 3... is this normal?

With www and without are different sites to google. You should advise everybody to only link to one of these. I suggest with www because some ppl can't imagine that it's possible to leave the www away :)
I further suggest you do a 301 redirect from mysite.com -> www.mysite.com

Another fact is i just got a message from a site yesterday saying that they added a reciprocal link to me and asked for the same. they say that unless i give them a reciprocal link they will remove their link.

Check the other site. Don't link to a bad neighbourhood. What is the PR of their link page? How many links are there? Are they 'real' links or redirects?

This page is a links page with about a dozen other links listed and has a pagerank of 3.

Is he decent?

It does not show up in my backlinks

backlinks update every few weeks. AFAIR about 3 days before PR change, also depends on the datacenter that served your request.

Now my question is is my suddenly elevated pagerank due to this one link i have? and strangely it doesnt even show up in the backlinks.

check your backlinks with alltheweb.com. Google only lists backlinks with PR >= 3

Also wont this pagerank 3 get divided between all the links?

yep

I dont want to risk losing my newly accquired page rank by refusing to reciprocate with this site if its due to this..

see above

Also can i transfer my pagreank 4 from the products page to the home page? any techniques?

Leave the PR where the content is ;)

I just noticed that my site has been accepted in dmoz.. could that be a reason for the sudden pagerank?

Of course. Gratulations, I never had luck with dmoz, it's always out of order :(

Altavista shows this dmoz link, but google doesnt

Also another product review site that i submitted to lists my product alaong with 26 other award winning softwares on a awards page which has a pagerank of 5. Could this have been passed on? but again doesnt show up in backlinks.

Always check backlinks with alltheweb.com
A link from a PR5 is fine

This site links to me in this fashion
[mysite.com...]

where hop.asp is a redirect page i provided them to redirect to the product page based on the productcode(pid)

Use mod_rewrite to make the url look nicer and to be on the safe side. Under certain circumstances (e.g. different SE, url too long, sid in url etc.) dynamic links can be problematic.
It looks ugly, use mod_rewrite :)

Make a link from the products page to the home page.
Actually, there should be a link to the homepage from EVERY page.
