My top site drops by around 30% with this one, a position #4 goes to #11! etc...
No logical reason, just algo change.
I freak, I have a reported (last month) redirecter at (now ranking #4 - moved up!), and 60% of the results on the first page (me being top of pagetwo now!) are TOTALLY irrelevant (ie all sites are off topic completely + NO keywords except perhaps link text on listed page) to a specific four word search!
This is not a whinge! Whinging is moaning about on topic sites ranking above you when in fact they have relevant content and lots of inbounds.
I am complaining about TOTAL IRRELEVANCE of Goog results (I have dozens of searches with similar - all moderately popular).
So since it isn't April and Google are asking (paying!) for help, here's my ten cents....
1. PageRank is an excellent concept, however, as it stands currently, it is my experience that a page can rank top ten for a search without all pertinant keywords being included ie a search for 'blue cold widgets bluewidgetland' will return 40% to 60% top ten results which are on topic only for 'widgets', but are in fact sites dedicated to 'red hot widgets rodhotwidgetland'!
Not a difficult concept I reckon in ensuring good search results: the page ranked highly much at least where available contain every keyword (other than 'and' 'in' etc unless quotes specified) in the search! Page Rank must NOT be the be all and end all of the system!
2. Really good algos don't need changing so significantly that sites change position radically each time the switch is flicked, if it had to change so much, how was it that 'right' in the first place? It wasn't! If it ain't broke don't fix it, so if it's being fixed all the time then it's permanently broke!
Those are my top tips for Google, what's yours?

well it was "broke" some people realised that all you had to do was spam the keyword on your page,
Spam is completely the wrong word.
Whoever started using this term (along with unethical) was rather confused.
Working against the wishes of google doesn't make it spammy OR unethical. It just means you design your site the way you like it, and google doesn't like it. Simple. google is the moral judge of the internet.
A self-fulfilling prophesy, I fear, because the above post, no matter what I attach it to in the thread above, seems to apply only to itself...
Or is it because it's 10pm here in the UK and I really should have given up hours ago!
