I will sometimes check the SERPs for my rank when I see a new hit from a different search. Well today I had one with my top keywords only in a different order. I'm #1 in that search! WOO HOO

So, then I rearanged the words and I'm #6. Then I rearanged again... #9. Same words, same spelling, different order.

What's going on?

Not quite sure I'm following. You mean rearranging the words into different phrases and getting different results for those other phrases?

It's word proximity. Arranging the words differently than they are on your page will score differently in the algo.

Ah, ok. Word order and proximity. We've had some great discussions on that topic, you can find some by doing a search on those words.
