Google Bot and Page Ranking

I am new to the SE World and I am trying to learn from this great forum.

My question is about the Google bot and page ranking and how are they linked. I looked at the log file and found the below entry for allot if not all of my new site pages. I just launched the site two weeks ago.

Googlebot/2.1 (+http://www.googlebot.com/bot.html)

Although the Google Bot visited my site, I still have PR of 0. How does the PR increase? I have a links section in my site where I link to pages of PR6, PR5 and PR4.

Can anyone help?

I don't thing being visited has any bearing on PR. It's the number (and quality in terms of PR) of inbound links pointing to your site that determine PR.

epsrx - when I launched my site a few months ago it was indexed after the update and google had given it a PR of 3. To my knowledge I don't have any incoming links as I have yet to campaign for that sort of thing.

I think back then google was assigning random PR values to new sites that googlebot crawled. Whether or not that happened, and whether or not my PR has been "grandfathered", if you will, to this day, I have no idea.

All I know is I submitted to DMOZ a couple weeks later I was in DMOZ, and a couple weeks after that the googlebot had found and indexed my site.

As for the links - you are already linking to them, why not politely ask them to reciprocate the link? Remember, incoming links are what matters here.

I have already more than 20 links linking back to my site from other sites and some are between PR5-PR6. I keep adding and asking other sites to link back to me.

The question in my mind is whether I should have been assigned a ranking or not? Is there a waiting period before a site gets a ranking?

I am new to the SE world and trying my best to catch up :) and learn from the experts on this great forum.

If you have 20 PR5-PR6 sites linking back to you, I would say you should have a da*n good PR. The googlebot has visited you, now you just need to wait for the google update which is usually at the end or beginning of any month. Be patient. I'm sure in a couple weeks you will have PR.
