Looks like Spain will have its own Google domain soon - google.es was registered today for 1 year by the limited company Google Spain, S.L.

Oh happy days at last there is a google.es. I have no doubt that Spain is important to Google in its own right and not just as a gateway to Latin America. Anyway I have a query which I hope somebody can help me with. In Google.es "Todo acerca de Google" (All About Google) Artículos (articles) HispaMP3.com talks about the introduction of the tilde to denote synonyms. It says "El nuevo operador puede ser empleado también en castellano." - "The new operator can also be used in Castilian (Spanish)". However when I tested it out I got some strange results. If I put in ~help -help in English I get a lot of results with guide, tips etc. But if I use the parallel query ~ayuda -ayuda (meaning help ), I get a message returning no results ("~ayuda -ayuda - no produjo ningún documento.") There seems to be an odd discrepancy with accents also. If I put in ~guia -guia (meaning guide) I get results with guía but if I put in ~guia -guia -guía I get " Su búsqueda - ~guia -guia -guía - no produjo ningún documento." (I got similar results when I tried "coche" car,ie if you eliminate the actual term it will look for the accented version of said term, regardless of whether they are related).Basically I cannot tell if the tilde before a term in Spanish looks for synonyms as the article says or whether it just looks for the actual term (which is what I suspect but would like to be corrected) so I would appreciate any feedback on this please. FYI, they've registered google.se ( Sweden ) as well, last month. It shows Google English.

I just visted google.com and was redirected to google.es - very annoying - I'm living and working in Spain obviously - but that's not what I want!
Click Google.com in English and update your cookie.

Hi all Is anyone else having problems accessing the advanced search in Spanish from the "Ayuda para la búsqueda" (search help ) page or is it just me? When I click on the part that says "La página de búsqueda avanzada de Google le hace fácil aplicar estos atributos a su búsqueda. Haga clic aquí para probarlo" I get an error: Not Found The requested URL /intl/es/help/advanced_search?hl=es was not found on this server. Am I doing something stupid (quelle surprise) or do others have the same problem? Regards Please Be Gentle
