PR's great but you can't pull it out of context. It's only a factor amongst many.
well this is my first 'big' site. it has 50 catalog pages with 4 boxes of text/pics on each page.
Now I choose 5 words that ranked high on overture and put them in my title, alt tags, and repeted them allot in the text on each page. using H1 and bold for them too.
what is the diffrence between a single keyword and phrases?
is there so much competition over single high ranking words I should use 1 or 2 phrases that rank lower to get more hits?
Im so despressed, took me over a month to build this and SEO it an it get 2 hits, I make a 1 page site with no SEO and get 200 hits?
any advice?

And "big green widgets" would be a seperate keyword.
There are a lot of factors to take into account when generating traffic.
To begin with, the sites that link to you can be a great source of traffic, so I would just work on getting more inbound links and adding more content to your site.
It wont happen fast, but it will happen eventually! :)

I agree. If you design pages for the sake of pagerank then that's what you'll get. If you design pages for customers then that's what you'll get. If you design pages for customers and pagerank then that's what you'll get.
Check overture's keyword suggestion tool for the popularity of the keywords and/or keyphrases that you want to target. That way you won't target phrases that people don't search for. You'd be surprised at the difference in searches for "widgets blue" and "blue widgets".
well I didnt sacrific design for seo to much excpet in puting keywords in title, alt tags, and repeting my key words alot in the text descriptions on all 50 pages. I Did interlink my site and point my PR4+ sites to it.
I did do a search on overature and chose my 5 keywords based on the most hits. I choose 5 single words.
Is it possible that ill never rank for widget cause everyone else is going for it cause it gets most hits, so go for phrases instead of single words like blue widget?
I dont quite under stand keyword density/weight either. is it basicly #keywords on site / total # text words on a site?
Could it be perhaps google snaged on its first spider and I just need to wait for the next spider?
Thanks all!

I think that is the problem why you are not ranking well. Single word keywords are very hard to optimize for. You have a better shot if you will optimize for phrases instead.
