I think you'll find the explanation here:
Ranking based on language settings
[webmasterworld.com]One search, but different results [webmasterworld.com]
Then I remembered that I get Google.ca as a default.
Checking on Google.com, I was relieved to see that my position was actually very good there. In fact the US version gives me a high position for many keywords that don't work on the .ca version. The US Google appears to be more "creative" in its interpretation of the search words and the results words. It seems to search my content text rather than simply matching words in the title or headers.
As of Sept 03, I am seeing a different (and better) selection of results on the US version for a variety of searches in my category. Google.ca continues to show the messy results we have been getting for the past months.
Is Google.com the development site? Will they roll this out to the other country/language Googles? Can we look to Google.com for an indication of what is to come on the others soon?
This is a problem that I have posted about before - I have even sent a spam report to GoogleGuy with an example.
You do a search on google.co.uk filtered to UK only.
Site ranks fine - then remove the UK only filter - I would expect the top 5 sites of a UK only search to be the first UK results on an unfiltered search - mixed in with the rest of the world results obviously.
This is the case apart from the site in question - it is nowhere to be found, all of the other UK sites are.
I do not beleive this is due to any locational issues - doesn't make sense - I believe there is still a bug somewhere that is causing this.
