Once in the index, always in the index

Is this true?

I'm an amazon affiliate. Therefor I have a lot of pages, one for each product that amazon sells. I wanted google to include a specific product in the index, green widget, so I created a link to that page from another page with high pagerank. It worked, and now the green widget page is in the index.

Does this mean that I now can delete the link to the green widget-page?

ALL I care about is that the green widget-page is still included in the index (I don't care about PR or position).

I have to delete the link within a month, since I don't want my green wife to find out I linked to a green widget...

Before this year, one might expect a URL to disappear in four to eight weeks of removing all links to it.

Now though, things are uncertain. Some URLs disappear quickly, others picked up in the early January crawl remain, even though they've not been linked since. I have one 1st January URL in Google that was only linked for that one day.

So the answer, I think, is maybe.

If your wife is green, then how come she doesn't like green widgets? :)
