I think that my sites may be confusing googlebot. We have two different domains that have identical subpage names bluewidget.html,redwidget.html,yellowwidget.html with different content. One of the domains outperforms the other by an order of magnitude. I'm trying to increase the position of the subpages on targeted searches and some days the more popular domains subpage shows up but just as often, it's seemingly out of the index and is replaced by the lesser domain, quite a bit further down. Each subpage links also to the homepage of the other domain.
There's really no way that the lesser domain has better backlinks and has inferior page content for the keywords I'm talking about. The fact that the more popular domain's subpage disappears from the index sometimes leads me to believe that something about these similarities is causing confusion. I've noticed other anomalies between the two sites with Google but on pages that are mirrored between the two domains.
Do you think this is possible?
